Hello guys,
Is it possible to buy and play the U Boat Missions on Steam WITHOUT having bought the Silent Hunter IV game? I'm slightly torn between buying SHIII (people say it's the best thanks to mods), SH IV (Americans, Pacific and lonely wolf tactics) + U Boat Missions (whole German U Boat campaign with Operation Monsoon mod and better graphics than SHIII). Best, Brett |

You have to buy sh4 and then sh4 uboat missions. They do have a bundle which has all of 4 as well as 3 and 5.
I got rather mad that after I bought 4 (in 2014) and found it was v1.3, and that is have to buy uboat missions to get the actual latest version. So I'd have to buy it again essentially. I went and got it as a digital download off Amazon.com

The 3-4-5 bundle would be really nice, if it wasn't for Steam's newer "security" on the games, making it to where you have to bend over backwards to get mods to take, and always wondering if they'll "keep"... I couldn't figure out why my SH3 was always reverting back to a weird version of stock, and it was the "Verify files" setting. Now I'm wondering how well the "new" stuff will work, since you can't specifically turn the "verify" off anymore.
SH4 is my all-round favorite of the 3 games (actually, the first SSI version is... but that's another story), and if you want US Fleetboats, it's the only one. You've got all sorts of choices for good mods on it. Just don't expect the Stock SH4 Uboats to give you much though, because it's a rather lame version of UBoats. You'll want to use Lurker's Operation Monsun for sure for certain on that, along with other mods on top of it...

Steam really can be a bit of a pain
![]() I already own SH V (on uplay), but the whole package would be reall nice. This being said, I'm just coming back to SH, this time with the stunning Wolves of Steel mod. The US fleet boats may be a nice change after the Type VII unity... Why are they a lame version of U boats though? After all, all WWII submarines were submersible torpedo boats after all. The beauty of the Amazon purchase is that once downloaded you have a folder that is the CD (autorun.inf and all) and just install as if you had the CD.

As for the SH4 Uboats, it starts in mid 1943 in Penang, and ends in early 1945. There's only a "start" in June 1943 and March 1944. That's all - there's not much there. A mod is almost a "requirement" if you want to play the Uboats.
