I rarely play the early war, primarily because it just is not challenging in terms of enemy escort's and their ability to hunt.Let's face it, rarely getting depth charged after sinking ships is anti climatic.
I've been trying to figure out why. Surely the AI is the same, just the sonar and hydrophones escorts have are less capable? Assume if I adjusted those earlier versions they'd be more capable? I made a mod for use in early war which limits thermal layer effectiveness in early war, it helped some. I was in an S boat and never went below 175 feet, was below thermal layer, they dropped some close charges December 1941 Then I saw utterly stupid behavior on my next attack. Torpedoed a ship DD was 1000 yards away didnt come to hunt me, just went still to listen. I moved into position and fired a Mark 10 in a "up the kilt" shot, hit it's stern, it eventually sank. Trying to find a balance to make early war challenging and thus fun to play. |

That is my dilemma. Well aware that ASW, especially on IJN's part was lax early in the war but it makes for some pretty dull patrols. I'm seeking to make 41-mid 43 realistic yet playable, keep things from getting dull. Torpedo issues make things challenging, add in some tougher asw, could breath life into this time period in RSRD. |
