Icon14 New sub after many missions

After completing several successful missions, they give me a new sumarin that turns out to be smaller in size and smaller in equipment. I do not know the reason for this situation and I would like to know if this is normal for SH4 wolf of the pacific.

Tranks for all.

What? Did you go from a Porpoise to an "S" boat? Like an S-18 or -42?

Never had that exactly, but I have seen Gato to Porpoise or Tambor to Salmon, weird stuff like that.

The key seems to be;

UnitTypeCommonality= 6 ; to be used when a random choice is assigned

Apparently the game is programmed to roll a set of virtual dice when deciding the "new" sub type, without actually checking which one you already have. "random choice".

So yeah, sometimes it rewards you, sometimes it punks you instead, best bet is to save the game just before ending the patrol so you can reload the save if you get punked.

Was wondering what that was about, be nice to have a more indepth detail of how it worked. Would be great for the cold war fast boats I'm doing.

Well, my testing was all with 1.4, have only had 1.5 for a week or so, dunno about that. In 1.4 however I did save just before ending the third Asiatic career patrol and reloaded a dozen times or so, the "new construction" promotion was already set but the upgrade or downgrade was completely random.
