To heck with Brexit and EU problems lets get it down to the
basic common denominator that we can understand and that
is the price of fish and chips.

Fish and chips is a hot dish of English origin consisting of fried battered fish and hot chips.

If I take fish and chips as an order of fried fillet and fried potato, I'd say about €5-10
Depends where the place is. The nearby train station has an excellent restaurant with affordable food and F&C would cost about €5. Ljubljana downtown would probably be double that.

In comparision, in my regular haunt a pint of Guinness goes for 4€, in contrast to the 5,20€ there.

Okay....in the north east of England prices can vary between £5 and £10, the average being £6.50

But we don't get newspapers, with it.

There is a fairly good-sized population of UK ex-pats living in the Los Angeles area, mostly around the sea-side city of Santa Monica. A few rather good pubs there serving fish and chips; the average price for a serving is about $9-10 US. There is also a small chain of fish and chips franchises named H. Salt serving up a decent product for about one or two dollars more...

The newspaper reference reminded me of a fish and chips shop that opened up in my old neighborhood in San Francisco in the late 60s. It was run by a married couple of English ex-pats. They served their F&C in newspaper as they had done back in England; they did this until they ran afoul of the local health and safety officials who cited them for using newspaper for wrapping. I recall how upset the F&C shop owners were when they had to stop using the newspaper; the husband, in particular, grumbled that "It just isn't right, It just isn't British!"...

Fish may be somewhat more expensive the first month, because the Pound Sterling is down, but with ignoring the EU fishing quota, the price should drop, due to the additional supply.

Not the perfect indicator.

Take a Big Mac - it is agreed upon to be a good indicator for economic comparison.

Reminds me of the time when I resided in Holland and a Dutch friend said similar...."We (the Dutch) don't eat our fish from a newspaper" and I responded...."At least we cook ours before consuming."

Prices in Aberdeen are anywhere between £7 and £30, depending on where you go.

Average is about a tenner.

Most of the smaller Chippy's are Chinese owned.

Only popped in to read a PM then I spotted this thread

R=Regular L=Large

Chips £1.65 R / £2.10 L
Cod £3.95 R / £4.45 L
Rock £4.95 R
Plaice £4.15 R / £4.50 L
Haddock £4.70 R

To be honest my local fish shop regular size chips is a big portion and too much for me with fish. Just about ok with a a couple of sausages. Can not fault them always had a good nosh up from there. Friendly Chinese and they won an award and always get a hygiene rating 5 very good.

my experiences are about like that of everyone else.

10.00 buys a good fish and chip platter with cole slaw. A good beer to wash it all down is extra.

If you get a chance. try a beer batter dipped or marinated fish, either deep fried or broiled.
