Default Scotty Moore, Legendary Guitarist For Elivis, Passes Away

Scotty Moore, legendary guitarist, a major influence on rock and pop guitarists, has passed away at the age of 84. Although he was more known to the public as the lead guitarist in Elvis' various backing bands, his reach and importance far transcended his work with Elvis. There are famous guitarists, from the earliest days in the 50s to today who cite Scotty as one of the touchstones of rock guitar:

Arguably, Scotty was as influential as Chuck Berry to guitarists at the beginnings of rock. Thanks, Scotty, for all the music and all those licks I stole off your recordings. Rest in peace...

I'm saddened to hear of Scotty Moore's passing. This is shaping up to be a bad year for losing musical talent. Another guitarist that knew Scotty was none other than Carl Perkins who passed away in 1998.

" Quote" Perkins successfully auditioned for Sam Phillips at Sun Records during early October 1954. "Movie Magg" and "Turn Around" were released on the Phillips-owned Flip label (151) on March 19, 1955. "Turn Around" became a regional success With the song getting airplay across the South and Southwest, Perkins was booked to appear along with Elvis Presley at theaters in Marianna and West Memphis, Arkansas. Commenting on the audience reaction to both Presley and himself, Perkins said, "When I'd jump around they'd scream some, but they were gettin' ready for him. It was like TNT, man, it just exploded. All of a sudden the world was wrapped up in rock." His best-known song is "Blue Suede Shoes

Scotty Moore is another example of an innovative guitarist that not only helped usher in Rock and Roll but also defined what a rock guitarist could be.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Rest in Peace Scotty and thanks for the music .
