Youtube streamer OneFJef has to abandon his SH3 stream due to CTD, help him out?

OneFJef - or Jef Major - is a youtube and twitch streamer who happens to enjoy simulations and often runs LetsPlay series on golden oldies.

He recently started a series on Silent Hunter III but ran into issues in the early campaign, and had to abandon his streaming for now.

His explanation is that a few days in after the last savegame in his stream, Operation Barbarossa happens and from then on the game will crash whenever he opens up the map. Clearly not playable, and since he cannot spend a lot of time figuring out stuff like this he regretfully had to leave SH3 for the time being.

Since I happen to think that he's doing a great job of promoting old games, and simulation games, or thinking person's games, and I personally enjoy watching his content, I figured I'd reach out on his behalf.

So just in case any of you reading this happens to know a fix to his issue, I'm sure he and his audience would appreciate it.
