Default Advice please

Hi guys, I am after a bit of advice please. I think I may be attempting to play the game beyond my ability. I have returned to SH5 after a very long time and have installed the Wolves of Steel mod which seems to be a marvellous addition. But I dont seem to be getting anywhere with it. I have watched all the videos I can find on the subject and also followed much of the advice I have found on this forum especially the Help post by TheBerbster and also played the tutorial scripts in TWoS.

It is December 1939 and I have not fired a torpedo at anyone, have shot down a few aircraft and sunk a freighter with the deck gun. All I have seen (other than the freighter I sunk) is destroyers, I did see a freighter disappearing over the horizon once. Couldnt catch it as it was moving fast. I have utilized the search script, sat at harbour entrances, wandered around aimlessly but can only find DDs which at the moment are more than a match for me.

My questions are, should I remove TWoS mod and play SH5 basic then reinstall TWoS later? Are there settings within TWoS that I should be changing? Anything else you can think of that may help.

All the best.

i suggest u do not remove TWoS..... in the first mission the Danzig bay one u don't need to sunk destroyers ....also is highly suggested to not attack destroyers ..... u need to sink only 2 ships in the designed area there are few ship there or u can go in the port and there also around 5 ship and u can sunk them and count for the mission ......
before start playing a campaign there is some tutorials scripts in the game menu....play with them till u got familiar with the TDC and how to calculate ship speed / course, fast 90 degree, AOB, torpedo settings etc etc and don't play with with real navigation and 100% realism if u are beginner play at normal level or a very low one .....

Hi SMS
You are doing ok.
Its a big ocean out there.
You can go for days or weeks without picking up a contact.
Follow Sjizzle's advice.
If you need to start a new campaign at a lower skill level try using the Wind and Smoke mod.
There are targets coming out of Danzig Bay
You do not need to take on the DD's but there skill level has been reduced by Vecko

Many thanks guys. Its amazing how far a little positive encouragement goes. I shall start again and take the above advice. I am happy with TDC as have played the tutorials a fair few times. Just need something to use it on now

All the best.

Just to add to the below, if you have any trouble sinking the Minelayers in Danzig bay, as they are moving a bit fast, you can send in a contact report while within sight of them. That will count as completing that mission and usually involves something else coming in to destroy them. They were out of range for me (playing TWoS as well) so I sent a contact report. While tracking them, planes came in and took them out. I then proceeded into Danzig port sunk some ships there, and hung out NE of Hela and merchants eventually came by.

When hunting for ships, think about where they may be going or coming from, and patrol those areas.

As mentioned below, it may take some time before you come across contacts. Patience is usually necessary for any hunter.

Good hunting Kaleun!
