the sad sad state of reality we find ourselves living in when officials feel that this routine every day non emergency is declared a special event that requires emergency response teams and neighborhood evacuations

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm assuming from the previous "shotgun shells" find that this is standard pistol or rifle ammo, and not a stash of 3" artillery shells. Here in Utah if you call the cops with something like this, they'll either take it off your hands for proper disposal or tell you to call the local shooting range to see if they can use it for something.

They do know that the turnout coat (the ones firefighters wear) will stop a round right? If it's not traveling down a barrel, the round loses all its energy rather quickly.

It would certainly be a big deal had this have happened in the UK but obviously not so in the US.

The county is certainly looking at the situation from a possible legal standpoint. In short, declare an emergency. Dispatch all available county emergency equipment. All of it...land, sea and air. So, in case something does go wrong with the offending ammo taking life, property or both the county is covered from being sued for lack of proper response with correct available equipment for such a situation.

Speaking as a former EOD troop, perhaps the primary concern was whether there were any other explosive/ammo at this location. If I got a call twice in a week for hidden/discovered ammo, I think it is prudent to consider that there might be more and to take reasonable precautions.
