Default No thanks....far too high

I've never had a head for heights but I can't imagine even standing in a building over 1,000 feet above ground level.

One other point...

I thought the old Sikorsky Skycranes were long gone?

You'd probably be barred from trying the slide because of the weight restrictions

They are actually still in production by the Ericson Air Crane company.

Apparently so, I was reading this on another forum shortly after creating the thread here...

Quote:
Erickson own the type certificate for the Skycrane and build them new and remanufacture ex Mil CH-54's, the Italian Forestry dept bought 3 or 4 several years ago , new build aircraft with glass cockpits. Every year Erickson bring 5 or 6 to Australia for the fire season. There is probably 20 + Skycranes around the world , most in the US and Canada doing heli logging and fire fighting.

All you need to do is make sure you are a fast runner as the person behind you will be rather unhappy.

Me either. I can't stomach heights.

The whole Sky Slide matter is a big news item here in Los Angeles. What is odd is the building, itself, has been considered by the local authorities as a prime terrorism target, although why no one seems to be able to pin down, other than some officials trying to make out the building has some of the same cachet and importance of the destroyed NY Twin Towers (it doesn't, really). Due to the supposed threat, the building, and any access to the upper reaches of the tower, have been off-limits to the general public. Tourists often have gone onto the building seeking to go to the top to see the view, but are turned away by building security; and security is very tight, at a level exceeding some of the most high profile government building in the area. A company I once worked for had a parent holding company whose offices were in that building and, even long before 9/11, if you didn't have business in there, and the proper clearances, it was a very definite "no-go". So far I haven't found any reports as to the reason for the sudden turn about regarding public access...

Same here, I don't like heights at all. It does something strange to my psyche.... sort of makes me feel like something may compel me to jump... brrr, keep me on the ground.

To give you an idea of how high up the slide will really be, here is a segment of a TV program produced by the late Huell Howser for the local Los Angeles PBS station in 1994; Huell actually was allowed to go to the very highest accessible point on the tower and then was lowered over the side in a scaffolding used by the window washers:

@Neal: I have the very same reaction to heights; a psychologist I used to work with told me the "want to jump" reaction is very likely a by-product/side-effect of vertigo; when we feel the discomfort we feel, it triggers a sort of "flight or fight" response and, given the shortest distance is down and the quickest means of ending the discomfort is to jump, we feel the inclination to do so; fortunately, reason overrules instinct and we don't take "the easy way out"...

That slide's no fun. Now if it went all the way to the ground...

Well, if none of y'all wanna do the slide, there is always the annual stair climb to the top of the tower; its only 75 flights of stairs over 1,000 feet:

http://www.ymcala.org/ketchum-downto...ir-climb-event

They raised over $730,000 for their fundraiser...
