Have brought SH5 several years ago, downloaded from the Internet.
Have previous brought the original version of SH3 and SH4. Not quite sure what the steam version is but hear bad things about it on this forum. (Please confirm anyone what Steam is! I have never seen any mention of it when i install from the copy i purchase years ago.) I know that if i want to run SH5 i need to install Uplay! for it to work. So i thought i would try and track down a original of SH5. I purchased one on eBay and then found out that i had to down load it and enter a key that they supplied. Was a little annoyed as all the photo suggested you were getting a CD copy and then the fine print was that they didn't ship Cd's and it was a internet version only. Finally came across a second hand copy from the UK and purchased and paid for shipping to Australia. After Installing and then logging into Uplay to run, It didn't ask me for the cd key! I figured that this was running from my original registered purchase, assuming i am running the downloaded version and not the second hand Cd that i just purchased.. (Hope this makes sense) So i decided to open up a new Uplay account with different email and user name. Then i was asked for a cd key and when entered it was declined as it had already been registered. Apparently if the key has been registered it can never be used again. So if you are thinking about buying a 2nd hand copy then you like me are wasting you time and money. Any suggestions ? If i install from the cd run with my old Uplay account intall TWOS will Options File Editor Viewer work ? |

Yes, I recently had the same experience of buying an SH5 DVD with the CD key already used. After reading the numerous posts about the modding challenges with the Steam version I thought getting original media (albeit used from eBay) would the way to go. Ah, best laid plans.
Please let me know the best version of SH5 to purchase, thanks. |

Er...I've never had any problems with the steam version at all. Applying hsie's patch FIRST and so on is the solution to a lot of perceived problems. What's more I run it on both Linux and Windows (not at the same time, of course, that would not be legal). Only real difference? Install location.

I have the steam versions of SH5 and 3 and 4 with no problems.
You put mods into the game folder, which is now found in the steamapps/common folder.
