Unable to progress in missions

I have this game purchased through Steam and registered with Uplay.
The mission progress bar on my game will not go up, on my first campaign I was doing the mission to the south or Irland and I had got to about 1/2 way on the progress bar, I met an unesscorted covoy which I tracked and attacked over 2 days inside the mission zone sinking over 100'000 tonnes in this attack alone (all but 3 ships) however the progress bar had not moved. I tried sinking other ships still no result. I started 3 new campaigns and tried all 3 different patrols and I am still unable to progress on any of them though when I quit the total tonnage sunk is recorded.

Any help anyone can give would be appreciated!

What kind of ships are you supposed to sink in the area? Merchant ships or military ships ?

I have tried all three of the patrols in the Total Germany Campaign and I have sunk the correct ships, the problem is the same with both Merchants and Military ships

If you are playing the stock game with the tonnage bar and campaign icons you will always have a problem as the game is broken.
Because you have Steam you cannot use TDW's Generic File Patcher that fixes a lot of problems and game bugs without using this fix.
