I WAS getting ready to make a Stadimeter Targeting Tutorial Video. But Murphy's law jumped in big time.
First I ran around all over the Gilberts looking for a target until I had run out half my fuel. I'm running GFO/RSRDC_SH15_V550. I found a single target, a warship, and started shooting video. Looked on my nav map with radar on and.......nothing. No contact. That's strange. So I backed off and as long as I was zoomed out far enough I saw the contact as the box with velocity vector, but when I moved in far enough that the silhouette should take its place, the box vanished and the screen was empty. The target identified as a Momi Class Patrol Boat. I brought the video to a stop and began detective work. I found that for the Momi Patrol Boat and the NDE Matsu, lurker has an empty transparent box with no silhouette for both ships. This smells like the RFB version, where targets on your chart vanish if you stand too close to the chart and we call it "reality." Maybe reality after a couple of sixpacks, but not reality at all. Every chart I've ever seen, the closer you stood the clearer you saw. Did the detective work, made and tested a mod to restore these two boats to stock game functionality. Available in the mod area. Please copy, steal, but above all, use this mod to restore visibility of these two ships on the nav map of the stock game/GFO and RSRDC. No puppies were tortured during the production of this mod.
