Just a quick introduction to the main question.
1) After looking at some pics of what appears to be genuine periscope views like ![]() I noticed there is no bearing scale on this. 2) There would be a bearing scale on the scope but the captain would have to look up for it. 3) The attack scope in the tower has 2 views. 1st is a general overview, 2nd is looking through the scope. 4) Although the attack scope is in the conning tower, the only exit after viewing it that I have found would be to the command room, not the tower. The Question: Is it possible to mod this so that you look through the scope with NO bearing dial, right clicking would take you first back to the general overview WITH a bearing dial, a second right click would take you back to the tower? |

Thanks. I guess I wasn't very clear. What I meant was, not only to have the ability to go directly from attack scope view to the general scope overview right now only accessable one-way via the tower, but also to have a bearing dial on the scope that works whereas the old in-scope view bearing dial is removed.
I have _a_ keymapper but I'm not sure how assigning keys would make a working dial the way I wish to see. |

Wow, a lot to answer.
Due to limitations of the game, things are in scope view to make it playable, e.g. bearing, torpedo dials and torpedo door and firing switch etc. This is a representation of the captain giving orders to do these things. A captain would focus on the ship and relay orders, e.g. bearing mark, open torpedo door, fire torpedoes etc. (Well according to cinema, but this isn't a reliable source) Now to use the Obs scope's 3d view to do all this, would make it very difficult to play and would mean the Captain does everything in the ship, which is unrealistic. It would be nice to be able to switch to the view you have shown in your picture, for a realistic scope view. Onelifecrises was very close to this when he introduced his enlarged Obs scope. I see only 2 ways of achieving both the normal scope layout and your picture layout, both have problems. 1. Make a complete new periscope section with your picture view and key jump between them. (I don't know if this would be possible) 2. Have the aperture surrounding slide to the edges offscreen and the aperture enlarge. (This would be difficult to achieve and the ships viewed would remain too small for the enlarged aperture). So 1. is the most likely way to go, if possible. I have a question for you sub experts about that picture, will follow in next comment - sorry to use your space Von Due, hope you don't mind. |

Looking at the picture in the 1st post.
I notice that the sub divisions between 0 and 10 mark are either divide by 4 or 5 subdivisions. Question. Is this because it's easier to use the 4 division part when referring between zoom x1.5 and zoom 6.0 (6 divided by 1.5 is 4). So the 1st mark on 1.5 would be the 10 mark on the x6.0 zoom. For visually calculating heights on ship, using the 5 division, would be easier than the 4 one. Would be interested to know the answer, ty in advance. |

As I was thinking about how to create another rec manual it struck me that a possible solution for that could also work with a clean scope view.
On any monitor, WS even more so, a circular scope view will leave empty space on the sides. So far that space has been used for things like the TDC but the MaGui mod shows that the TDC can also be a panel that only shows when you click a button for it, and you can hide it. What do you guys think? Would that make for a cleaner scope view that is just as playable as the current scope view(s)? |

If you really want a cleaner scope view, there is an easier way to do this, instead of moving lots of stuff out the way.
Look how the red mask is done that reflects red light at night in the scope view. There are 4 masks, one for each side, that slides on off screen. These cover the whole area of the scope view, apart from the viewing aperture which is cut out (clear) on each mask. This is what gives the red light effect. Now you could use this idea and make them Black masks, so that they slide over everything outside the aperture and cover everything bar the aperture. The surrounding area around your view would be black then, same as the surround in your picture. You could put your manual on top of the black mask so it shows and have it slide in view with the black mask or make it available anytime. Your preference.
