Google Earth is supposed to show the most up to date imagery, however I have noticed this isn't necessarily true.
I was looking at Severodvinsk and noticed it. Look at the first picture - Year taken 2013. Then look at the second image with the time slider and the most recent is 2014. ![]() ![]() |

Maybe the pictures are in the right order, and they're actually dismantling the ship?

What's so strange here.
That's a dry dock and between 2013 and 2014 the ship was repaired/maintained and was sent bck to the sea. |

I think it's based upon image quality in some cases, or if there's no cloud in one picture and cloud in another. But using the time slider can be a lot of fun, especially in the UK where you've got some overlays from 1945 and earlier in places (I believe Germany also has these, so you can see war damage in Berlin and that) and also, if you go to Guam and use the timer, you can spot the ever illusive B2 stealth bomber sitting out on a taxi-way.

What you are misunderstanding is that under normal viewing, ie BEFORE I use the time slider the date is 2013.
It is ONLY when I use the time slider that the LATEST DATE image is shown. I thought Google Earth by default showed the latest taken image available. I know that between 2013 and 2014 the ship could be refitted and put out again. |
