Default DW Replays

Ahoy all!

I often try to use the replays in DW for educational/learning purposes. However, it seems (at least on my machine) a bit buggy. I can't seem to skip around the replay smoothly and it is laggy and choppy.

Does anyone else have this problem with replays in DW?

Is there a way to save and export them and possibly view them in a smoother player (e.g. VLC)?

Let me know what you think!

Thanks!

Hello,

I have similar problems watching the replays. I find that if I do anything other than simply hit play (with or without time compression) the replay will likely lockup.

Trying to use the slider for anything other than the smallest jumps almost always locks up the replay for me. Using fast forward or "skip to end" may or may not lock it up.

Same here - it can be a bit temperamental - I play the reply at normal speed and then "gently" try to increase the time-lapse...

I wish there was more info in the replay - it doesn't indicate what type of torpedo has been fired, nor are depth-charges clear as to when they've been fired. (I attacked a warship with torps at close range) and suddenly I had 34% damage...I assume it was depth-charges?

Yeah, it's basically screwed . When I do replays for my missions, I just set my recording software to record the whole thing, play the replay at 16x speed, and then in post-production, I further slice the replay up into sections and do even crazier time accelerations (~300 times speed) to get through the boring parts. I don't think that really makes sense if you're just doing it for yourself, though.

It always seemed weird to me that it couldn't deal with jumping around in the mission's history. And, in my experience, the replay can really misreport locations of ownship and enemy things. It's really quite a buggy endeavor. My friend and I were working on a very simple mod for DW a while ago, so if you're savvy in computer science, you could probably take a look at the replay file and make your own program to try and sift through the replay quicker. This recommendation is without any knowledge of what that replay file entails. I'm not sure if it has some kind of encoding or not.
