Is there a possibility for the land units to become targets so they can be destroyed? They are such a nuisance when sailing past in a battleship.

Yes, there is.

Someone did make some destructible buildings. I don't recall the details. Somebody will be able to provide more info.

It was iambecomelife IIRC, he will be using it in the WW1 mod

You will get a destructible factory and oil tank model. If you're savvy with S3ditor you can add a sensor so that, if you approach within visual range of the buildings, you can be reported to hostile forces.
