This time with a Russian slant:
http://www.janes.com/article/51453/r...?utm_campaign= If that makes it off the drawing board in that configuration the term "top heavy" springs to mind. ![]() In related news, the Krylovsky State Research Center have produced a design for a Russian super carrier: http://www.janes.com/article/51452/r...m-supercarrier Mike. ![]()

Thus far we see two models....I wonder how long before anything more tangible taking into account the state of the Russian economy and low oil prices.

I wouldn't really expect anything anytime soon. I think the carrier design is little more than a willy waving, anything you can do we can do too exercise. Especially with the EM catapults being included. I can see the Russians and Chinese discretely co-operating on something like that. The former help out with the design process whilst the latter do the actual build for their own navy. The Russians then use the experience gained to have a go at building their own variant.
![]() The Russians did something similar with the Indian Talwar class of frigate. They adapted the Krivak III design for Indian requirements, built the ships for them, then used an updated design for their own Admiral Grigorovich class. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talwar-class_frigate http://www.shipspotting.com/photos/b.../1/1568194.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Admiral...-class_frigate https://21stcenturyasianarmsrace.fil...frigate-02.jpg As for the destroyer, it should be achievable if they get rid of that idiotic foremast design. The Russian Navy really needs something to replace the 80's vintage Sovremenny's and Udaloys. As for finance, where there's a will, there's a way. John Kerry did meet with Putin in Sochi recently. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-32700259 Whether anything comes of it, who can say.... ![]() Mike.
