I have tried to take screen shots, but fail. I have tried PRTSC, and ctrl+f11, but nothing seems to work. I search all files in ubisoft\sh3 buit I cannot find them if they did print somewhere. I am using windows 8. any ideas? is there an app I can use instead?

They will end up in the root of the SH3 game install folder. But, as you say you have Windows 8, and it is likely installed into the Program Files folder somewhere, that will be the culprit. Windows (since Vista) doesn't like it when a program saves/modified or creates files into the c:\Program Files folder. Which is what happens when the game tries to save a screendump. It spawns a UAC warning and asks consent of a administrator user, but more likely because time runs out... it simply aborts this.
The solution is to install the game into a self-created folder that is NOT inside the "C:\Program Files" folder. Keep it outside of the watchfull eyes of (over protective) Windows. Just create your own folder like C:\Games\SilentHunter3 and supply this path when the installer asks this . But this may depend on if you have a Steam install. In that case you are kinda screwed. As you can't change the game store afterwards afaik. Last edited by Pisces; 04-03-15 at 05:54 PM. |

I found once that I had to press "cntl+F11" really hard before the screen capture mode had any effect. And yes, they were stored in the root folder of sh3, it took me a bit to find them later...

Root folder meaning the root folder of SH3: "SilentHunterIII". The folder where sh3.exe resides.

Well, the root folder means the beginning of a folder structure. So for SH3 this means where it is installed. By default: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\
SH3 has it's executable stored in there, but some applications or games have the executable file stored in a subfolder (like \bin). So it is not always true that the root folder contains the executable program. Similarly, the root of the harddisk would be C:\. And the root of the Windows folderstructure is then c:\Windows |
