im using GWX and a few other mods..
I reached my patrol area and decided to go dive to 60m and listen for the day.. co2 hit 50% and i surfaced to move on, however my oxygen does not seem to be replenishing. Is this a bug and has this happened to anyone, and if so is there a work around without aborting the mission? Thanks for any help ![]() |

Do you use h.sie's v16? How about Stiebler's 4c? Both change the way CO2 works.

You are right.. I installed hsie for the first time and im going through the options and noticed the oxygen fix.. I will have to look into how it works properly as its going to really add a whole new dimension tactically!

I have Stiebler's 4C on as well, and IIRC it seems Stiebler's CO2 settings are a lot more lenient than h.sie's.

Hi All;
I've been running GWX 3.0 and staying submerged sometimes for 8 hours or more. My oxygen levels drop, of course, but come back up after a short run on the surface. Question: How much does the oxygen regenerate in a real boat? From what I've read it wasn't a good idea to keep using the emergency oxygen as it was hard to replenish if at all. In the sim, I'm not having any problems at all running deep and long at least once every three days or so, just to rest my crews. Any replies on this would be appreciated, thanks. I did a forum search on this topic and found some interesting threads, but no definitive answers. I have noticed, however that the oxygen level doesn't drop immediately but after a few hours. A bit confusing but sure not a game killer. I'm enjoying what I'm doing now very much, but as for ultimate realism, I just don't know. Cheers; ![]() Last edited by alpha_1; 03-30-15 at 02:44 AM. |

There is no way to refill the oxygen tanks, except to return to a port and replenish. You can not refill while under way. When the tanks are empty, they stay that way until you return to port. Submarines did not carry the equipment necessary to extract oxygen from the air and store it. The oxygen in the air in the boat is a different story. Once you return to the surface and the hatches are opened, the oxygen is quickly replaced by exchange with the outside air. Takes a couple of minutes. Then you can dive again, but only until the oxygen level goes down to 17%. At that point, the crew has to get more oxygen, either from the tanks or from the atmosphere. AFAIK, neither the h.sie nor the Stiebler patches has any effect on CO2 accumulation. A search of the documentation for both does not find any reference to "CO2" or "carbon dioxide", except to state that the new oxygen gauge replaces the CO2 gauge. |

Thank you so much for clearing this up for me. I'm sorry guys, and it's no wonder I always find myself on KP Duty. I've been slowly immersing myself for about three weeks now, and I completely misread the CO2 gauge. I thought it was an oxygen gauge and that it was some kind of emergency supply. Stupid is as stupid does. Ahhhhhh, live and learn, eat humble pie once in a while, count your blessings, and proceed. So very glad these forums are here.
Thanks again! ![]() |

In the stock game, you get a CO2 gauge that slowly creeps into the red the longer you stay submerged. It does not model the atmospheric/compressed O2. You have to mod to get that. Steve |

Yup, I understand now, for sure. Running GWX 3.0 gives me the CO2 gauge, I believe. I haven't modded beyond that to this point.......along with SHCmdr of course.
Cheers. ![]() |

Hi,
the CO2 concentration had to be limited, too. This was done by using 'Kalipatronen' which were also limited. Unfortunatly, SH3 allowed to model only one aspect: O2 or CO2. And since the limiting factor to my knowledge was O2 and not the Kalipatronen, H.Sie and I decided to model O2 and neglect the 'Kalipatronen' aspect. Regards, LGN1 |

Hello,
I might be wrong, but I remember hearing about a bug with the CO2 levels if you alt-tab out of SHIII. As I recall, minimizing the window that SHIII is running in while submerged can cause the CO2 level to "stick" at it's current value even after you surface the boat. This bug can be fixed by repeatedly saving, exiting, and reloading the game. |

I have noticed, in my days of stock SH3, my CO2 gauge would take about 5-10 minutes of running on the surface before the air throughout the boat would be refreshed. Makes sense, it takes time to ventilate the entire thing, not seconds after the hatch is opened. And if the waves are too high, and keep breaking over the conning tower, forcing the watch crew to hold their breaths, it can delay the whole procedure.
I'd be concerned if the air does not refresh within 1 hour of normal surface running with calm, flat seas. As I've said, I rarely have to wait longer than 15 minutes, with the worst weather.

Sticking CO2 values when alt+tabbing?
I do that probably thousands of times during one patrol and have had no problems. I do use the CO2 changing h.sie v16 and Stiebler 4c patches, though.

SH3 is such a quirky thing that I would not be surprised at all if the CO2 really got stuck with some players. I meant to say that, that does not happen to me, but it might still happen to other players.
