Hi, I am an old sub sailor. I served on a WWII diesel boat(USS Carp SS-338) in the sixties. I was stationed in Norfolk. The Navy decommissioned the USS Guavina (SS-362) and was going to take her out and use her for target practice. We were told we could have anything we wanted off the boat so I took 2 diving alarms. Someone beat me to the contact maker switches for the alarms. As I was leaving the Guavina an officer off of our boat saw me with the 2 alarms and told me to put them in his cabin. This was just wrong and I was pissed but I did it. After fuming about it I went back later and took one back. It is sitting in my garage at the moment. I would love to find the contact switch for it. Any thoughts on where, if anywhere, I might find one?

Welcome back: I have contacted USS Pampanito, also baleo class, at Fisherman's Wharf S.F tel. 415-775-1943; awaiting call back from mgr. on 'contact maker switch' for alarm. STANDBY!

Good luck with your search, that would make an awesome 'dinners ready' siren. Alternatively, rig it into your smoke alarm system!

I'm gonna suggest a car alarm, full volume klaxon...

The diving alarm works. I hooked up a heavy duty switch to it and boy is it LOUD! I used to crank it up on New Years Eve at midnight. When I was on the USS Carp, at one point my bunk and my head were approx. 1 foot away from the alarm but eventually I could sleep thru it.
Urge The Diving alarm in Acktungbbys post is identical to mine from what I can see. Last edited by Urge; 10-10-14 at 09:22 AM. |

Hi Urge ... I picked up a contact maker this past weekend. I figured it to be for a general alarm but not positive on that. It says on top:
Cease Firing Contact Maker Type M-IV-S Under the brass lever, are the numbers: 9-S-4812-L I was told it came off a WWII ship but that's all he was able to tell me. If you need a picture ... let me know Rick |
