Default Returning to the Fleet/Saying Hey

Hello All. I've not played sub sims for about 5-8 years, but I am returning to the Fleet. I don't think anyone cares, but I'll say it anyway. I'm 51 years old. I was in the real US Navy for 20 years. Not on subs, but I was stationed on a sub tender for 2.5 years, 1987-1990. I first played Silent Hunter, version 1, on a computer that was so slow, I once fired 10 torpedoes at a carrier, and was able to go make a sandwich and come back to the computer before they hit.
Like I said, it's been a while since I played, so I'm trying to remember how to command/drive a sub, and fire torpedoes again. I'm fairly computer literate; I used JGSME in the past, but I'm trying to figure that out too before I ask any questions.
Just wanted to say hey to every one on the site.

Gary from GA

Ahoi @ gcroix

The most important answers can be found here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=155786

Important is that you have at least JSGME and the 4GB patch for large modifications installed.

As for the large-mod issue (because of the simple installation), there are probably two options for the Silent Service.

1. FORTSU
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=226270

2. Ralles RealModPack

Hope I understood you correctly and this helps you further.

Welcome aboard gcroix!

We are always glad to have new people here so we can show off our vast wealth of knowledge and skills. You'll probably need help, so don't be afraid to ask questions.

I understand the sink in The Bilge needs to be unclogged. I want you to go help with that.

If you'd quit trimming your eyebrows over that sink fireftr18, it wouldn't be getting clogged every week, now would it?... That was a nasty, disgusting job the last time when I did it...

Welcome back Kotter - er, gcroix

now I'm ~really~ showing my age...
