AAARRRRGGGGGGG!!!

So I was having an awesome patrol. Sank a 45,000t liner, and about 20,000t of other shipping. I was running/hiding from some convoy escorts when my friend called asking me for some help. So I save the game and shut down the PC. I get back and try to pick back up where I left off and I kept CTDing about 5 (game) min in to playing.

I cant remember if this is a common bug or dose my PC hate me?

I think it just happens with the SH games sometimes, If I remember, just keep running saves, some people keep about 5 in a row and go over them in order so if they do CTD on the most recent they have 4 others close enough to not lose a lot of progress.

I had that happen once when I saved near a convoy. I was underwater and I dropped to what I thought was a safe depth and saved. I blew an attack so I quit and relaunched and yeah, my PC decided that I was too close to the convoy and it did not feel like rendering all the ships, so, back outside to desktop I go. I never felt the sting of that kind of failure often, just every now and then.

Yes, saving the game in the presence of other units can bite you this way. If you must save at short notice, then break contact and try to move away from them. 50 km is the recommended distance, but I think you can get away with at least 35 km. I guess it depends on the size of the convoy. If you don't have the time to move to a safe distance then I suggest you leave the game paused in the background. Although that doesn't always work reliable for some systems either.

This will de-spawn the units if you already made contact with them. So after you find them again later it may look like a different convoy composition.
