cuz today i started a game using sc3, and it was august 1st, 1939. i sank some english ships, came back to base, and got negative renown. while searching for it, somewhere it said they give you 1000 renown at the start, but i only got 500. so is there a difference if you start up the game using sc3 or gwx? if so, which one am i suppose to use?

Welcome aboard!
![]() If, by 'sc3' you mean SH3 Commander, then always use Commander to start your game. If you start it from the GWX icon Commander will not know to do its job. GWX is a mod, and a great one. SH3 Commander is not a mod, but a tool that controls the game from the outside. Therefore you should always run it first. This will not affect how GWX works. The problem you had came not from Commander, but from GWX and Commander combined. The war doesn't start until September 1, so all the ships you sank in August were neutral, which is why you lost renown. The reason for this is because 14 u-boats were sent out on August 19 to go to their stations and await the start of the war. The Commander-GWX combination allows you to do this. If you would rather wait, just set your starting date for September 1st. Also, if you don't do any of the Academy courses you start with 500 renown. Completing the Academy lets you start with 1500. In GWX the Academy is very tough, but you only have to complete the Navigation course to get the full 1500.

Hi Steve
Interesting and useful information. I did not know about the GWX academy courses. I cannot see anything about this in the GWX manual so this good timing for me. I have my L plates on at the moment in SH3 tutorials. The GWX will take it up to another level. Peter

Well, to be honest. the only GWX course that's really hard is the Anti-Aircraft training. They aren't just there to be shot at, they're there to kill you, and they try real hard. I've beaten it a couple of times, and it's fun to try, but it's also not necessary.
