Something to think about-if you have kids and work a lot

Missing your child's first tooth, your child's first word or first step a.s.o due to a lot of work is not good.

I haven't got children of my own, I could be writing about things I don't know of. I only say that if you work so much that you miss a lot of your child's grow-up you are missing something important in life.

My wife had six months off work, then not long after that I was made redundant but found a part-time job which was perfectly timed. I had every morning with my daughter and the afternoons at work. It was obviously a hit on the family income but, for me at least, totally worth going without something so I could get that time with her. That time you can never get back - cliche but true.

I came to thankfully understand early on in my career that making time for your family, and in particular your children is way more important than your job.

I work at home, so was in the best place. I still missed his first steps, though, because he was at the in-laws' house.

When you've got kids you always think "What's going to be best for them?" And you don't ask this because you feel you ought to, but because you want to.

Unfortunately, in some areas like North Virginia both parents usually have to work and this is especially true with young couples.

I just don't know who some young couples can make it in this very expensive area.

Working two jobs is not as uncommon as it used to be.

Good thing that live goes on nicely even if you do miss these events. As long as you are there for the kid as much as you can, they will thrive quite nicely.
