Default DEFCOM 1

I missed this clip on FOX, retired Lt. General McInerney stating we should go to DEFCON 1 before 9/11. Now, if I caught him right, the reason why will be released in a book on a major network {which would have to be FOX} right before 9/11 explaining what's going on. I guess I missed the revelation, unless it's coming on FOX soon, seems there's a special on Benghazi tonight that will be revealing and I heard the retired SEALS were putting out a book.

Anyways, what cowards if they had real info that they would wait a few days before 9/11 to release in a book deal..... Has FOX hit a new low? However, for discussion sake be fun to talk about and some other issues should all the conspiracy theories hold any truth.

I think this contains why some feel Obama is a traitor and covers him stacking the CIA, military, etc...with his crones. Course many feel he will create a crisis to become emperor of the US.

I haven't researched it, but what would happen if a president did fail to protect the US or became obviously inept or mad. How could he be removed or stripped of power in moments if needed.

Did we or are you conspiring against my thread? Anyways, I find it funny that a Lt. General wants us to go to DEFCOM 1 based on a book. I assume what he's referring is the special on Fox tonight about Benghazi.

There's always someone out there with a conspiracy theory about something. You're right, if they thought the information was plausible, then they should share it immediately. They're just looking for money from gullible, low information people who don't try to get the correct background info themselves.

Well, the one question is serious, is there a way to remove a derelict or mad president. For instance, say Palin was president and she woke up claiming God told her to nuke the entire ME right away and she's running for the red button screaming "come Lord Jesus."

Fox is a good broadcasting company.

If you believe the exact opposite of what they tell you, you are good to go.

Why does this person want USA go to DEFCON 1 ?

Didn't USA do that 9/11-2011 ?

Why would some terrorist attack USA or other allied on that day, where they expect such an attack.

Nope, US went to DEFCON 3 on 9/11.

The DEFCON levels are very specific, and the highest the US has ever been is 2, and that was during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

DEFCON 5 - Lowest State of Readiness - Normal Readiness
DEFCON 4 - Increased intel watch and strengthened security measures - Above normal readiness
DEFCON 3 - Increase in force readiness above that required for normal readiness - Air Force ready to mobilise in 15 minutes
DEFCON 2 - Next step to nuclear war - Armed forces ready to deploy and engage within 6 hours
DEFCON 1 - Nuclear war is imminent - Maximum Readiness.

The DEFCON levels don't really cover terrorism above DEFCON 3, they are more for nation vs nation war, in particular war with the Warsaw Pact.

As an aside, the UK had a similar system back before our 'UK Threat levels' called the 'BIKINI States'. Honestly, I prefer the BIKINI states over this new fangled system which doesn't seem to move much beyond 'Severe'.

Bikini States:

WHITE - Situation stable, normal procedures apply.
BLACK - There has been an assessment of a possibility of an attack, but no defined target, it could also mean civil unrest meaning that safety cannot be guaranteed.
BLACK SPECIAL - There is an increased likelihood of attack but no defined target, can also mean potential terrorist threat.
AMBER - There has been information received and there is a substantial threat to government targets, it can also mean high alert which could mean a transition to war.
RED - Information has been received about an attack on a specific target, it can also mean that the UK is at war, especially if there is the risk of a nuclear strike.

NATO itself had a system-wide 'counter-surprise' alert level which went:

ORANGE - Triggered by intelligence reports suggesting that the enemy are preparing to launch an attack within 36 hours, NATO forces go to a high state of operational readiness, Communications networks, War HQs and Command and Recon manned, forces dispersed to operational locations.
SCARLET - Enemy attack expected within minutes, deployment as Orange level as permitted, SAM and AAA weapons manned, aircraft awaiting orders.

@ Oberon thank you for the information

I'm curious to what this book would reveal

Looking forward to hear about it.

I guess, as some of you mentioned it will be a book filled with conspiracy stuff

Defcom 1? Is that where they all stick their fingers in their ears?

Fat fingering a dinky keypad on a cellphone is no way to post about the Defcon 1.

Let's all play Chicken Little and run around declaring that the sky is falling.
If they keep crying Wolf, they're going to be a nice chicken dinner.

The really funny part is, our local FOX affiliate station has the call letters WOLF.
