Hiya's,
Bit of reading but i think guys with dual cores or more will find this amazing, i certainly did .................................. I had been gaming for many years with crossfired 4890's Served me really well I really needed a new rig, and firstly as i'm not made of money i thought gpu, then after intel release their updated cpu's anytime now i will see how they fair before deciding on which mobo/cpu to get Well, the new gpu is amazing, it's an r9 290x which i slapped on a water block as i love to bios flash cards with my own modded specs so it made sense to watercool her (her, lmao, hell yeah she's smooth as silk) Well the fps increase was staggering with this new gpu, but i still had tiny minute jelly effect of water around the sub, and moreso with the new gpu (for some weird reason) i had mouse lag which i had only ever had with a sluggish logitech driver Well i tried all different fixes/approaches and gave up, then reading an oc'ing forum i happened across a post about cores being parked I followed a link to a simple proggy to un-park the cores Seems windows really likes to park the cores by default, from what i quickly absorbed, the cores spring into action when needed but this can cause A: micro stutter effects (my jelly sea) or B: mouse lag After running the prog (instead of having to wade through the registry, which i'd rather do) i checked and 3 out of my 4 cores were indeed parked Simply executed the un-park option, checked cores were un-parked, and rebooted, checked again, still un-parked This has cured my micro jelly water effect, also now my mouse movements are amazingly crisp I can't believe all these years i've been using pc's i'd never came across 'parked cores' I always oc my cpu's and gpu's (when it was possible) , i started watercooling with home-made blocks in 95, built several phasechange coolers and ran -25c and below (ahh happy days of crunching or chipping athlon dies), volt modded gawd knows how many mobos, only to find since dual cores and above came around a simple reg edit or prog could unleash more fps and speediness (yeah for those that know about this parked core mallarky, i guess i'm one of those that have been under a stone) hehe Well if anyone with either of my symptoms wants to try, google or youtube for info how to regedit, or try this util in link (hope the links ok to put up, if not i'll remove asap) (if you're able i'd say do your own regit, if you're not used to messing withe reg just use the util/prog) Worked for me and my fps has gone up also (win win) http://coderbag.com/Programming-C/Di...arking-Utility Sorry it's long winded, but trying to emphasize what it's fixed for me, and to give you a bit of background showing i'm not a moron lol (who says i am ehh ehh) ![]()

Well, this is interesting and different. I wasn't having any lag problems, but I changed my registry entries anyway and powered computer off/on. Seems to be working okay.

Hiya,
It's just really really made a difference for me and i'm overclocked to the hilt I've always done the 'usual' tweaking for whatever os i'm using, but somehow for many years i'd missed this tweak hehe I know some people (quite a lot by my years of being on the forum) use laptops, this deffo reduces battery charge, obvious as the cores are not snoozing but ready to pounce as it were, it seems to unleash some more grunt Will do some benchmarking to satisfy my curious nature on the percentage side of things ![]() Will post back effects etc ![]()

As long as the link has nothing to do with game hacks or piracy (which it doesn't) there's no problem.

Cheers Steve,
I'll add a link then, it shows in a video how to check/enable via reg editing I know lots of people are afraid of the registry, but with a video i think anyone can do it without any worries (before messing with any registry without having to worry back it all up) If you highlight 'Computer' that's got an icon, then click File tab above, then Export, give it a name eg: 'before messing with core parking' (date too for good measure) (make sure Export range is set to All), then click save, you've now saved the whole registry before messing/altering with it If you want to restore the reg, instead of doing the Export, just do Import, basically point to where you saved the reg backup Link ... http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=229080

This is a big "To Do" in the Flight Simulator X world. This is a great tweak that will help. Never thought about posting it here, as I thought it was quiet common. But I guess the Flight Simmers have kept it to their selves until Defiance came across it.... Great Job bud!!!!!!!!!

Nice one Defiance.
![]() Do you only unpark your cores before playing, then reset to the default afterwards? Last edited by 7Infanterie19; 06-03-14 at 11:17 AM. |

Hiya's,
Never came across this when i was flight simming ![]() No real reason to park them again once set, unless on a laptop and worried about battery drain, as ever though, if anyone's worried, just leave well alone, again either change reg back from 0 (zero) or use the l'il util As i say i used the util just to try quick as the small hours were approaching and the reg edit is simple I've done crazy things to pc components over the years so i feel comfortable squeezing the last mhz/fps outa anything i can .............. Had no bad effects so far with cores left unparked Seems it's one of those 'hidden secrets that's hidden in the open' My cooling loop is the same temp as before, so no power/heating issues here This cpu of mine is old-hat i7 920 DO but she's @ 4.2 stable since day one, but she's always been watercooled, i have ran her at crazy vcore @ 4.4 + so for me having all cores running doesn't worry me in the slightest Well if this rig goes bang (kidding, i know it won't lol) intel are about to release anytime now ![]() ![]()

Thanks for the update, Defiance!
Sounds to me like it might be worth checking out .. or should we let you guinea pig it some more? ![]() Quote:
