In the Mittlemeer today and discovered a convoy. It's September 1943 and we have been working from Toulon since Spezia fell.
Anyhow, we dove upon sighting the LONG line of merchants. A curious Fletcher blundered behind us and we managed to put him down. We lined up our first two shots and fired at a HMT Aquitainia (couldn't resist), both scoring and stopping her. We send out a FAT TI eel and fire our last shot at a coastal merchant. With the escorts pissed off, we go to escape. We evade the first attacks, diving to 50 meters, when a pattern of Hedgehogs and follow up of DCs opens holes in the bow quarters, deisels, and aft torpedo. Flooding ensues, and we start down, adding 1.5 meters to our depth per second. Forgetting Silent Running, all avalible hands start repairs as we blow past 200 meters, headed for the Locker. But my stubborn repair crew refuses to relent as the depth needle goes off the scale and glass starts shattering. Finally, at 289 meters, the water is gone and we blow ballast. We surface to find a sinking Aquitania and coastal merchant ship. Two days later, we limp into port on one engine, a blackened hull, and 9% integrity. We're alive, and we aren't getting rid of the repair crew or U-480 anytime soon. She's a damn good German boat.

Not my favorite movie, but...
"Them Krauts sure know how to build a boat."-Chief, U-571 The resulting medals and such went straight to those fine men. It was a heck of a ride, and we left for Bergen straightaway. With a crew like mine, we'll make it through the war.
