Head back to a friendly port and when you're close enough a little blue anchor icon pops up. Click on it and then press "refit" and you should be loaded with more eels.

Default welcome aboard!

LOSTATSEA!^ Head for Wihelmshaven but pull in to Heligoland 45 miles off shore to the NW for a refit to restock eels, fuel and deck gun shells; It is AN95 on your map. or proceed to any port in Kiel Canal or Wilhelmshaven. refits are short and not the same as 'ending a patrol' for total refit and upgrades. Good luck Kaleun!

If it's a career you are on, I'm pretty sure that even if you end the mission your tonnage total for the missions is cumulative, i.e. even if you sail back to port and end the mission, you can go beck and do it again and it adds your previous mission tonnage to the total. Although of course as others suggest, you can simply go to a port and rearm using the 'refit' option and then return to the mission location and carry on. The only disadvantage to doing that is that your renown and promotion points for anything you've sunk don't kick in until you end a mission and start a new one, so you won't be able to promote anyone until the mission is actually ended.

It is also possible to radio for a resupply by taking to your radio operator, but if you are a long way from base and don't have much renown then you are likely to have the request denied, as you probably would have in real life since it would be risky parking two subs up on the Western Approaches for a few hours whilst a load of torpedoes were transferred. This is especially true if you radio in a rendezvous location after late 1941, since this is when the Kurzsignale position reports from U-Boats began to be regularly decrypted, and I'm pretty sure this is reflected in the sim.

Note that you could always look for some ships with little or no protection and engage them with the deck gun (if you have one, not sure you do on that first mission). It'll probably take thirty shots to sink something like a Liberty cargo ship (depending on where you hit it). Be careful though, some merchants will shoot back at you, notably the Cimarron Class Oilers (tankers), although if you approach them from the rear, they can only bring one gun to bear because the superstructure of the ship gets in the way of the other gun's line of sight. Take that rear deck gun out, stay behind it and it'll be practically defenceless as you lob shells at the thing. In SH5, you've got about enough HE and AP rounds to sink maybe four or five Liberty Cargo ships, and early in your war career, there's little risk in doing so.

Actually, you can make things a little more immersive by noting such positions in a log (any old exercise book or some such will do for that). If you have the positions noted down, you can then redraw the locations on your map if you really want to. You could even get a small map or chart, put it up on your wall and stick pins in it if you want to get really 'nerdy' about your victories. Things like that can make the sim more fun depending on how 'into it' you are.

Default welcome back aboard!

Chock! after nearly 6 years of very silent running! Must be a very 'chilly thermal layer' indeed!

Default Just in case

I suggest you save your game just before you dock at any port. That it, save it while outside the port. That way, if the tonnage total is not kept or added to, you can reload the save and try another again.

I am responding to the suggestion that you could end the mission rather than refit. I don't know if the totals will be kept - but the save will assure you can do the refit instead.

Also, when exiting your game - you should exit to Menu first and then exit the game. The map marks are saved. Again, I'm assuming that you are using the UI from Darkwraith rather than stock version.

Good patrol! Better than I've ever done.

SHO

Huh guys i just scored a perfect hit from about 2,2 km, and all thanks to math.

Heres what i've done, didnt see that other people do this, maybe im wrong but i got to show u.
1. i was a bit slow, and couldnt get to good shooting position, so i did the math

I measured distances of these numbers, and it was
A1-B1=250
A2-B2=900
B2-C=1050
B1-C=x
so 250: x=900:1050 ... 900*x=1050*250 ... x=(1050*250)/900 ... x=291,6 ..so x= around 300, i just then measured 300 from B1 to C, aim and shoot 2 torps
and heres the result:

Notice my u-boat spead is about 8 knots, i thought i would miss it for 100-200 meters, but it went right to center, my best shoot ever, and for the first time i split ship in half

Only thing that is, lets call it malfunction, is that when i measure distances it rounds them up to 50, so i can't measure 35m or something like that, i know that i had luck here, couse i got preety good number at the end around 300 and then i could easily aim, but if it was 270 i wouldnt have a chance to score, my torpedo would go 25m to left or right... anyway is there a MOD or something to measure distances more precisely?

So thats a bit showing off, but till now this was just a game for me, now it's something more

So u guys aim like this when using auto TDC? or is there yet better way. i tried without these numbers 1,2,3 but its not working for me, i supose that is called manual TDC. and is there a name for these numbers 1,2,3? Im still a rookie, but for now it's going good, i just learned that torpedo's are called eels

and one more thing, i apologize in advance for my writing,if u notice a mistake just ignore it, i think that this community is smart enough to know what i mean, english is not my language, but i try to do my best. I just say this couse i had little missunderstandings on some other forums where we went offtopic becouse of it... anyway thats all folks
