Default of defaults

This is more about how to mod what we CAN mod to set defaults in the game, rather than a wish list of hard coded things that we would like to have changed. Some of this stuff is probably doable if we only knew which files to start in. So what I want to know;

1. Torpedo defaults. High speed 20 foot depth by default so I don't have to set it every single time. The game sets low speed 5 foot depth by default, it must get that info from somewhere, but where?

2. Outer doors open/closed indicator. Light for the tube is dark when empty, flashing green when loading, steady green when loaded. Hit the Q key to open the outer door, get distracted, did I already open the outer door for that tube or not? Only way to find out is to hit the Q key and watch the message screen, if it says "Closing tube 3" you already had it open so need to hit Q again to reopen it, if it says "Opening tube 3" then it must have been closed. The game obviously knows the open/shut status of each tube, why should the skipper be kept in the dark? Information is already there, how hard would it be to add some kind of open/shut indication on each tube?

3. Radar defaults. 8000 yards focus every time the game is started or a save is loaded, so set to 20000 yards and sweep. 20000 stays set but every time I go to look at the display an invisible hand reaches in and resets the switch to focus so I have to switch it back to sweep. The most irritating part is heavy weather where the radar switches off, then the idiot who's supposed to be on watch doesn't turn it back ON again. And the depth is all wrong anyway, if the antenna is above the water at 40 feet it shouldn't switch off at 30. There must be a file or files somewhere that controls radar default settings, if anyone knows share the wealth.

Other suggestions welcome, any info appreciated.

I would add to #1: fix the offset angle dial so that you can set the torps in advance, and don't have to take valuable time doing it at the last second.

I like #2. That would be nice.
