Sinking ships
I have recently modded my sh3 game with gwx and on patrol 1 and I sunk 2 cargo ships, one Norwegian and another British. I did not go to my patrol point and do th 24hr patrol. When I exited the patrol I found that when I got back to base that there was no evidence in my logs that I had sunk the 2 ships and I got no reknown points. It was pre war but I dont understand why this should happen as I sent radio messages when I sunk the ships and got me

First of all, in GWX you don't need to patrol the given area. In stock game you receive some renown points for doing it (500 If I remember correct), in GWX earning renown for patrolling your grid is removed.
I believe you sunk two neutral ships. Did you checked their flags and if their nation is in war with Germany. To do so, you can press F1 then "Enemies of Germany" to check if a nation is hostile or not. There is also a Flag Recognition Manual on the top left corner of your screen (Flaggen), you can hold and drag it. Also, you get the renown even if you didn’t reported your kill to Bdu. Additional Info : Earliest nations who goes to war with Germany are Poland on 1 Sep 1939 and United Kingdom on 3 Sep 1939.

Just a little note. In the future you may also experience lack of credit for sinkings if you do not observe it actually sunk or the sea is shallow to the extent that your target does not sink completely.

GWX starts you before the war actually starts in 1939. If you sink ships before the war has started, you won't get credit because you have sunk neutrals.
When you exit your patrol and look at the summary you will see "Neutral ships/tons sunk". You have to sail around on a training patrol or two doing nothing before the war starts. It's a nice way to earn a couple of qualifications for your officers before the shooting starts. Steve |
