SH3 or Sh5?

I played all the silent hunter games from the 3rd to the 5th. Silent hunter 3 with the gray wolf super mod was the best and most enjoyable game i ever played. So i was wondering with the new SH5 mods that are out there, can anyone tell me if its as good as Silent Hunter 3 gray wolf?

You're posting this in the wrong forum. Your answer is going to be greatly biased depending on which forum you ask (SH3 or SH5). The best way to find out for yourself is to try it out. But I warn you that stock SH5 is total crap. You need to mod it.

If you use my Generic Patcher to patch SH5's files you will get a game that is unlike any in the series (in regards to what it enables you to do). Just to name a few things I have added to the game: carriers launching aircraft, independent engine controls (need to be using my UIs mod in order to use this feature), and sending in contact reports could result in Bdu sending subs to aid you. Try finding these in SH3 or SH4 (SH3 has something similar to my wolfpacks patch that was made by hsie). And I continue to add/develop new patches for SH5.

With SH5 costing around $5 for the DVD version of the game you have nothing to lose. Go on, give it a try. I bet you will be hooked.

Just a word of warning: do not get the Steam version of the game if you want to use my Generic Patcher app. I do not support the Steam version of it.

What he said.

Given the current price situation there is absolutely no reason not to buy SH5 and find out for yourself.

As he also said, this is the forum for Silent Hunter Online, the new online-only game. It's free, so once they get past the testing stage there's no reason not to give it a try as well.

Having spent a lot of time in all the SH's if I had to recommend any one version it would be:

SH4 w/ Latest Trigger Maru Overhauled and SH4 w/ Latest Operation Monsun

SH3 w/ The Grey Wolves expansion being a very, very, VERY close second.

SH5 lacks decent mods, and the UI and campaign mechanics are just bad compared to 4, IMO.

SHO is a great game, but is a bit arcady/easy mode and the lack of an external camera is really unfortunate (but it is fun and approachable, I recommend it to the casual sub simmer)

Don't forget Sh3 with CCoM (Captain's Choice of Mods) ! An incredible list of changes and adds ! One of the most ambitious mod ever made for sh3 ! Last version is 10.1. (10.2 on the way)

For the last three or four years I'm playing SHIV, mostly with OM, TMO is also good. I never liked anything about SHV, and SHIII is a bit dated. But SHIV is exactly in the sweet spot. The only down side is that there are not many mods in development, the good thing is that the ones which are there are already very good, and I can spend more time to really experience them.

Why was this thread revived to answer a statement made more than nine months ago? The original poster hasn't even been on Subsim since then.
