Default How was this photo taken?

The answer is that it wasn't.

It's not a photo but a painting by Gregory Thielker

More fabulous non-photos here - http://www.viralnova.com/realistic-paintings/

Or more of Greg's stuff - http://gregorythielker.com/underimages/coming.html

Thank you for sharing that link. Absolutely amazing paintings. The closest I get is taking a photograph!

Wow!

Thanks for the link.

When comparing to that, I draw like a child.

Amazing! I wish my photos were as good.
The closest I come to drawing is to draw money out of the bank.

Wow, he painted that while he was driving? Good thing the cops didn't show up.

Well....it is a photo of a painting is it not? My guess would be it was taken with a camera.

Actually there are now two.

While I find these truly amazing, and the talent involved is almost beyond understanding, the question I can't escape is that when a painting can exactly duplicte a photograph, what's the point? Why not just take the photograph?

It also makes people drop their jaws.

I think there is arguably more skill in creating a painting than taking a photograph.

Mind you, I'm a lot better at photography

I didn't say otherwise.

Without question. My only point was to wonder why someone would want to spend the time and effort making a painting that is indistinguishable from a photograph. Of course MH's answer is certainly the correct one, and I think it's fantastic that they can do this. I just fail to see why. But then I fail at a lot of things.
