Default WW1 soldier diaries published online

Quote:
Diaries from British soldiers describing life on the frontline during World War One are being published online by the National Archives.

Events from the outbreak of war in 1914 to the departure of troops from Flanders and France were recorded in official diaries of each military unit.

About 1.5 million diary pages are held by the National Archives and a fifth have been digitised so far.

The project is part of the government's World War One centenary programme.

Each unit in World War One was required to keep a diary of its day-to-day activities.

That should send Gove into a fit.
Too many of the contemporary accounts sound like they have been written by modern liberal wishy washy blackadders instead of true patriots fighting for democracy.
These archives need to be rewritten by correct thinking politicians before they can be released for public education.

A bit 'over the top' aren't we? Actually letters and diaries 'from the front' tended to be 'spruced' for the King and Country Victorian( as in the American Civil War) aspect still in vogue as it was not unexpected that eager recipients at home would pass or publish the missives to concerned other locals desperate for news from the front...other than the horrific casualty lists.

If anyone does not know yet what this thing with Gove is about:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...academics.html

As usual, it's not historians or finally demasked propaganda, but 'the Left'
The 'Left' is dumb enough, but nothing beats 'the Right'.

I would love to have him read "The pity of war" and "The sleepwalkers".
But even if, unfortunately those people are born with a hard-wired mindset, and it mostly looks as if it were just one wire
