well I recently got looking at my logitech G510 keyboard and it got me thinking about developing a program for the LCD screen as logitech provides a SDK so one person can make a program for a game if they choose and even make it public. my idea is to make a program for some of us SH3 players providing some information such as torpedoes left, torpedos loaded, shells left and maybe a little more.
one of many problemes i am facing though the programing language is C++ not java like i am used to. another probleme is i am not entirely sure how many would use this as it would be specificy designed for the logitech keyboards with a monochrome LCD display(one for color may come at a later date though for the G19 keyboards). what do you guys (and gals) think. |

Programming is programming. If you know Java, then C++ won't be too hard to pick up, especially since you already have a project to use it on. Go for it!
I use a Logitech wireless keyboard, but not a gaming-oriented board with a display. You have a good idea, but it wouldn't work for me. |

i will admit i really do not expect expect many to have the keyboards as they range from $50 for an older model G15, or is the a newer model, to as much as $300 for the G19. and for SH3 it is well overkill to put it bluntly. the only reason I really have one is I play a few other games that take advantage of most of the functions (also it was a $50 refurbished deal).
however seeing as such a readout would be nice to have might as well make one. after thinking more i think adding total tonnage sunk on the patrol would be a good addition to this idea..... of course this is all assuming i actually manage to progam which i am sure i can |

POST DELETED: Decided this is not the forum for a discussion of programming languages. Apologize for raising an OT ish.

Here's a pretty thorough evaluation of C#: http://news.slashdot.org/story/00/08...the-microscope

Excuse me to get, but you could use this good book sir "Beginning C++ Game Programming" of Michael Dawson. It is quite easy to understand, especially if it manages other programming languages.
I hope that will be helpful. ![]()

well hit a road block that is forcing me to give up on this. The game doesn't want to display the info. The game wants the key presses to display the info and even then it has trouble converting the torpedo load out and the shell loadout into a hard number I also expeirimented with showing fuel range and a few other things but many of the same problems occure. However I did learn alot about programming so it was a little fun.
