Are there any other type of missions- for example, rescuing survivors, reconning etc. during a campaign(patrol) apart from sinking ships?

No, your only objective is to patrol a given grid for a duration of at least 24 hours. If you'd like to follow a bit more specialized orders, you should go for single missions.

I am not sure there would be all that many palatable "special missions" anyway. BdU ordering rescue missions was more unique than rare (I recall 2-3 cases or such). Insertion of agents was done but not very common. Otherwise it would mostly be "hang off Greenland and report weather" or "here is a nice load of mercury, bring it to Japan". Minelaying is something I find interesting but unlike in WW1 pretty marginal.
