Umm...
You have Windows 9 or something?

Just do not install to the ProgramsX86 folder!
Guide it to a custom install.

Yes, windows 13- advanced beta

I am getting a new rig soon, and it will have Windows 8.1 and should also have enough ram to be able to fully enjoy SHIII. My current system can work with most scenarios with a little lag but the new one shouldn't have any issues.

Given that every other version of windows is totally aimed at the suck factor?
You should be good to go.

Curious: have you started playing SH3 under Win8.1? If so, have you noticed any problems? (I'm having issues playing single missions or career, but that's with a bunch of mods that may have screwed stuff up.)

Well, after a long, long time, I reinstalled SH3 + GWX Gold + SH3Cmdr + OLC Gold on a Windows 8 x64 machine and besides the obvious resolution issue it looks good (can't utilize 1080p monitor to its full capacity in this one, but oh well, I just play on true 4:3 aspect ratio - not stretched - and very high antialiasing and it's... fine).

Custom installation of course, so it's not in "x:/Program Files...".

I did the same. The other thing I did was have Windows 8 run SH3 Commander in Windows 7 mode (but I'm not sure if that's necessary.)

There are a few threads concerning saved game ctd in windows 8, and I have had this problem when trying to use wide screen mods. The game plays ok in the 4/3 mode as noted above.
