Default Some thoughts about the races in the Star Trek world

Is it only me that sometimes wonder HOW races like the Ferengies, Klingons, Cardassian and many other races that I can't recall right now.

Could develop warpdrive and other technical stuff, when we all know, they are either more interested in profit or war.

I know IT'S just movie/TV,

The klingons obtained warp drive from the Hurq, invaders who once conquered the klingon world, then a medieval society, not only socially, but also technologically.

War and profit are the two biggest reasons we invent things. In the case of the warp drive, going faster makes a better warship, going faster delivers cargo faster. You can argue my point of why we invent, but even the invention of the spear was for profit. It made hunting easier. At the time, food was the profit.

I wont argue with you, you are right.

Had this thought when watching an episode of DS9 how could the Ferengi and the Klingon develop warpdrive and expand this invention or capture(see jimbuna's thread above)

If it had been for real had the ferengi or the Klingon warpdrive? Nobody knows or will ever know.

It was stated in Star Trek: First Contact that Zefram Cochrane (the human that invented warp drive on Earth and led us into an age free from want) did so for profit and not with some great ideal in mind.

So to answer your question, yes seeking profit is indeed a very good motive to get things going. Or to kill someone in a quicker, more effective way. It works either way.

My biggest apology to you all I should have been thinking a little more before posting this among other Star Trek fans

I know very well about these things you have mentioned in this thread.

No apology needed. You started a good discussion.

Klingons appropriate by force.

and the Ferengie would consider it a just deal for both parties.

The Klingons just wouldn't care.

That was ...artistic.
