Default Titanic violin sold for £900,000

Saw this on tv yesterday and an auctioneer said a violin of average quality and build like this would normally fetch a couple of hundred pounds at todays market values but because of the history attached to this piece it could fetch as much as £300,000....it was eventually sold for £900,000

Quote:
The violin that was apparently played to calm passengers on the Titanic as it sank was sold for £900,000 in just 10 minutes at auction in Wiltshire.
It was played by band leader Wallace Hartley, who died along with 1,517 others as the ship went down. It had a guide price of £300,000.

Strikes me as grave robbery.

PS: If the ship line wanted reimbursement for tuxedos, they should have sent the bill to the captain.

Considering it is alleged that the body of Hartley was found floating on the surface with the violin in a case, strapped to him, not at all.

Which would have been a waste of time.
Unless of course that is the point you are trying to make.

No, wait. I meant Nero's was a lyre.
