Also, a little known fact: The actor Steve Buscemi joined in.

He was a firefighter in Engine 55 in the 80's, after Sept. 11, he went back and worked
12-hour shifts, helping the rescue efforts.

The funny thing about dogs is that work for them is play, no matter how serious the task, they see it as play. And they do it until the job is complete.

Of course they're dying off. Dogs don't have the greatest longevity.
