I used to love whisk(e)ys of all sorts, but I don't drink alcoholic beverages anymore. Screws with your metabolism too much.

Had some Glenfiddich or Glenmorangie at my Grandads funeral, to toast him with, he did like a wee dram from time to time, and I have knocked back about two thirds of a bottle of year old Famous Grouse once. I wouldn't mind trying a Laphroaig sometimes, got a very distinctive smell to it, had a conversation with a gent about it once and he said it was to do with the peat-fires that they use to dry the barley.

Here's what we have behind the bar where I work:

From left to right, top to bottom you'vce got Bell's, Grouse, Canadian Club, Jack Daniels (had that too a couple of times, not that keen on it), Jim Beam, Glenkinchie, Talisker, Glenmorangie, Oban, Glenfiddich, Laphroaig, Dalwhinnie and Jameson.

I don't do much drinking any more, had a nasty experience once that put me off it, but the smell from those bottles is very nice, that I can tell you.

And that's before the wine selection...

But bah, hate the wines anyway, pulling pints and doing whiskeys, that I can handle just fine. I remember when I was still new on the job and someone asked for a White Wine Spritzer...I blue screened, never even heard of it before. Still, I've usually got enough of the old charm to talk myself out of most embarrassing situations...

Damn beer pumps have been rebelling on me lately, no matter what angle I tilt the pint glass the damn things froth up like a rabid dog, quite annoying having to wait for it to calm down.

Default Four Whiskey Quotes

“Love makes the world go round? Not at all. Whiskey makes it go round twice as fast.”
( Compton Mackenzie)

“Everything in moderation except whiskey, and sometimes too much whiskey is just enough.”
(Mark Twain)

"The water was not fit to drink. To make it palatable, we had to add whisky. By diligent effort, I learnt to like it."
(Sir Winston Churchill)

Got a full one in the cabinet. Just trying to see if there is a cheaper alternative out there.

Drinking milder sorts of Whisky, but very rarely only, maybe every two months, or even three. Dalwhinnie 15 years and Jameson 1780 preferred then. Getting away even from this. And as I said: drinking a glass very rarely only.

Can't deal with alcohol that good anymore in general, my stomach and head do not welcome it that well anymore, I have even moved away a bit from Pils beer. Never liked wheat beer, and never liked alcohol-free Pils beer, but currently I have a strong love affair running with alcohol-free Erdinger wheat beer , ice-cold. Maybe no beer, some might say, but I don't care - I like the fresh, almost fruity taste, it's great pleasure to drink this on hot summer days. But only this. Normally I hate wheat beer in general, using it only for Pizza dough.

I remember a tale an old supervisor once told me, he used to work in a pretty posh establishment where £40-50 drams of whiskey were not uncommon. Well, one chap came in with the air of the noveau rich around him, you know the type, and he ordered one of the most expensive whiskeys in the house and asked to have either ice or water with it. The supervisor had to walk away and get someone else to serve it who didn't know any better.
I think if my Grandad had been there he'd probably have knocked the chap in question off his bar stool for such a transgression.

Hate the stuff. I'd love to enjoy a sip or two, but even the smell turns my stomach.

Love the perfection and art of producing it.
