Default Win 7 problems=CTD

Yes, another win 7 problem thread! I miss my XP!
Well, I installed the game (new copy bought on amazon, already 1.4 patched and no needing the dvd to play) in the drive I have for the games. Installed GWX, than my mods list. Patched and do what is need to have h.sie and stieblers mods running.
The game loads fine, then I choose a single mission, it loads good, but its CTD instead of loading the game.
I did the changes to the cfg files so that the resolution is not above 1024x768 (and it's the same resolution I have), but no effect. Did the same with the mods, just gwx and got the same problem.
Advices please!

Prior to installation did you uninstall a previous installation, delete the SH3 folder, run a registry clean and if possible, install the game into D drive?

Yes, and then my pc was formated, since I had a nasty virus. So I think that if anything was left on the registry could not resist that!
I did install the game on a D drive. But I asked on a previous thread if I could that on Win 7 and the answer was affirmative.

I originally installed on Cx86 when changing to the W7 OS but one or two niggles with the game started creeping in so I installed to my secondary drive D and have not experienced any problems since.

Before you add mods, test the game for normal functionality. And while adding mods, test again at every step. The game isn't very forthcomming with suggestions where it may have gone wrong. (there are no log-files) So you need to make sure it is all right, and not go on blind belief.

I didn't install the directx version that came with the disk, could be do to this? I had problems also with SH4, but after re-installing and installing the directx that comes with the game, now is working fine!

You should always allow install of the DX stuff.
If it's not needed? It will not install. If it's needed? You'll have problems if it's missing.

Same here as what others have said for installation of game. Same goes for installing Directx that came with game.

I have installed SH3 to SH5, each to a folder that is not the default program folder for the operating system, current operating system Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit.

Did a clean instalation, with the codecs. Load the game and a single mission, the game loaded fine. Now installing GWX and the mods!

Edit: Well, it's now down to a mod problem. I installed gwx and the game run fine. After installation of my mod list, I got CTD. I removed the h.sie and stieblers mods, since they are the last ones and they do change sh3.exe, but got also ctd. So now I have to enable one at a time to see which one or ones are doing this.
I leave my list so one can see if there are some mods that are incompatible.

Rhodes, I don't see any incompatibilities in your mod list. Just one WAG: Be sure you do not activate the patches in h.sie's Supplement to V16B1 before patching sh3.exe with Stiebler3_Addon_for_V16B1. Patch your sh3.exe with H.sie's patcher first, then with Stiebler's, and then activate all patches. The directions are clear enough on that point, but some of us (sigh!) have been known to overlook it.

BTW, you might want to get Stiebler4B_Addon_for_V16B1 instead of Stiebler3_Addon_for_V16B1. It's 1.5 revisions ahead. Likewise, you could update FM_NewInterior_V1.0 to FM_NewInterior_V2.1D.

The patches part are fine, I always patch first with h.sie and then after with Stiebler. But didn't know about the version 4.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. It's not about the order you are patching, which is correct. After you run h.sie's Patch_SH3.bat, you must run Stiebler's Patch_SH3.bat then run HsieOptionsSelector_V16A.exe (Stiebler's version) and you must never run HsieOptionsSelector.exe (h.sie's version) on the same sh3.exe. If you are using Stiebler's patches, then you should never use h.sie's original HsieOptionsSelector.exe.

Using both HsieOptionsSelector.exe and HsieOptionsSelector_V16A.exe on the same sh3.exe is an error I made. It may have led to some problems with the game.

I see! Thanks!

Edit: found the first culprit. FM_NewInterior_V1.0! After enabling it, I got CTD, now why?
The new version also gives me CTD!

Ending this thread since it was about win 7 and ctd, but it is not the case any longer. The game runs fine on win 7, and the CTDs are do to mods conflicts. After advice I am going to create a new thread on the mods forum to seek help.
