Default What the hell is (null)?

After the new inventions and gadgets began creeping in, around 1942 I decided on a little flotilla hopping and settled on the 23rd/29th with the kicking bull mascot. Well, instead of "Base changed to...." I got "Base changed to (null)" then after many frustrated clicks on OK, it said "Base changed to (GO TO GAME)"

I had to crash SH3 just to get out. Has anyone else encountered this? Do you think its a Steam issue, is it a mod issue, or just a known bug at this point in the campaign?
I wish I'd stayed where I was now. I was happy at
Any help will put you top of my Christmas card list.

Thanks in advance.

"null" in developers/programmer-speak means nothing, zilch, nada, niente, empty. Somehow the code of the game can't come up with propper base name, and returns this value because of lack of a better response. Or appearantly sometimes a random index for text that is listed in SH3gamefolder\Data\Menu\en_menu.txt

Or a not so random index: index 0 is really empty, and index 1 means "GO TO GAME". Either way, the game made a booboo. Obviously a sign there are still bugs in SH3 to be found. However, Ubisoft won't be fixing it. So if it doesn't crash, be gratefull.

Thanks Pisces. It's more annoying for the fact that I can't even click it away either, so it's either forgo my last patrol and load an earlier save (My saves go like this, Patrol, close. closer, suicide - then I sink) or find a way to make it at least insert something. As I'm not at all savvy in the programming dept, I can't see the latter working. Thanks for replying anyway mate.

Salute, Steve !!!

When I was installing Hsie's mod I was having problems with appending two of the files (de_menu and en_menu) to get the correct text report to show for poor visibility conditions.

Each time I started Commander it showed NULL for the base and patrol area too. So I knew that the mod was not correct and it would surely ctd.

Once I figured out what I was doing wrong Commander showed the proper base and patrol area.

So, perhaps you have a faulty mod installation?
