Default SH3 GWX 3.0 and my system

Greetings all,

I was just playing one of the Single Missions on GWX. I chose the Convoy HX 228 mission.

Had QUITE a lot of fun playing this one.. I sank 3 Modern tankers, and the escort carrier..

However, using my current machine, the game bogged down during the sinkings of the tankers, due to all the memory used up by the flame graphics.

I am in a position where I might have some "extra" cash to upgrade my laptop.

I am thinking of getting a new rig.

My current one that plays GWX fine with only a few exceptions has the following.

Windows Vista
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T6400 @ 2.00 GHz and 4.00 GB RAM.

What do some of you experts recommend for me to get so my new computer doesn't bog down.

Unfortunately, I can't just plop down a bunch of cash on a "gaming machine" as I have a desktop that I purchased to do that and it has had major problems. As a matter of fact I can't play SH3 on my "gaming rig". I use my stock Laptop from Best Buy.

Thank you in advance

Be sure you have the 4gb patch working. Also, turn down the particle density in the options, and use a game booster to free up memory.
Turn off the Internet, firewall, and antivirus software.
It might also help to set the priority to high for the program.
There are a few more things you can do, but try these first.

Add more memory, up to 8GB Ram. It is cheap now and using the 4GB patch should help run it too. It will still bog down if there is a lot of fire, and you are close to it, but otherwise, it will run fine.

With a 32 bit Vista he will not be able to use more than 4GB. Even with PAE enabled. (enabling it might even make the system more unstable or cause driver issues... TLDR: Microsoft doesn't support it, because other software might not.) So suggesting him to get 8 GB is a waste of money, unless he happens to have a 64 bit version.

Ok,

Just to clarify, I am using the 4GB Patch.

My Windows Vista is 64-Bit Operating System.

Should I explore adding another 4 GB RAM to this?

Also, from what I am seeing, it would seem that my laptop is currently capable of playing SH3 in its current modded configuration without too much difficulty, and don't need to upgrade?

I don't have many problems, playing SH3, but it does lag during many explosions and during my time leaving port in Wilhelmshaven.

Yes I am using GWX Harbors, X-tra ships mod.

Your current memory is fine but I'm wondering if your graphics card is the component that is struggling.
