Default Is it risky to change the renown points?

I use GWX and if I understand correctly, they do not reward for making it to the assigned sector, returning to base, etc..
If I wanted to change this and make it worth some extra points to make it to the sector, stay there, then return, would this be risk? I don't want to break the mod, everything is working great right now.
If so, how would I do this? Any recommendations?
Also, can I get more renown for playing at 100%?

Is any of this worth it and does it also help my crew to get better?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to add a little more challenge and incentive to make it to the assigned sector.

You can change the renown points by editing the text file Data/Cfg/Basic.cfg. Use Notepad or any text editor. The third block in the file looks like this in stock SH3:

[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=500
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=200
CompletedPatrol=100
NEUTRAL=-1
ALLIED=1
AXIS=-10
WrongShipSunk=-5000
FirstRankRenown=1000
SecondRankRenown=3500
EndCampaign=-5000

and like this in GWX:

[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=0
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=0
CompletedPatrol=0
NEUTRAL=0
ALLIED=1
AXIS=-1
WrongShipSunk=-5000
FirstRankRenown=100
SecondRankRenown=350
EndCampaign=-5000

You can change it to suit your taste.

" Is it risky to change the renown points? "

Depends on what you mean by "risky."

If you mean: "Will it break the mod, cause a malfunction, game problem, or CTD?" No, absolutely not.

If you mean: "Will it change GWX and alter the play balance that the dev team worked hard to tune to their liking?" Yes, absolutely it will.

If you mean: "Will it make the game more or less enjoyable to me?" YMMV

Accumulating more renown points faster will let you buy better replacements for your crewmen sooner. In that sense, it will help your crew get better. Whether it will give you more qualifications, medals, or promotions to pass around, I don't know but I doubt it.

Try it and see what you think. Don't forget to save a copy of the Basic.cfg file before you modify it, so you can go back to where you started.

CAVEAT: The statement that making THIS change will not have any harmful effect on the game should not be applied casually to ANY OTHER change you might choose to make!

Good luck and good hunting.

And you can ignore the Complete Patrol part.... that never worked anyway.

Ok thanks guys. I really don't care about rewards. I was thinking of just having something to give me that little incentive to make it to the assigned spot and back, in case I was unsuccessful in my patrol.
Doesn't matter much though. I love the GWX mod and I don't want to really change it so I'll leave things alone.

Default Which "basic.cfg"?

In another topic I've read that the file "basic.cfg" in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Cfg should be modified, not the one in GWX.Is the same file?
