Default I don't see it"

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I'm brand new to this. I installed the UltraSubs Mod using jsgme. It shows up in the jsgme as active but when I launch SH4, I don't see any difference? what did I do wrong or not do?

you probably have jsgme installed in the wrong place or you put the wrong folder in jsgme.

before you do anything uninstall the mod with jsgme to avoid file corruptions then

open the mod folder and all you should see is a "data" folder there, if its not there then your not using the right folder.

if the mod file path is correct then open the ubisoft game folder and open the sh4 folder, you should see jsgme there along with a "MODS" folder. if not then you put it in the wrong place.

Default I'm seeing something different

to start with, JSGME was a folder in the SH4 folder instead of just being directly in the sh4 folder. Now I see in the Mods folder after I used JSGME to install it, the folder "American_UltraSubs_v4.31" and a JSGME file snapshot and a JSGME config settings. The content of the "American_UltraSubs_v4.31" folder is a folder called Data and "American_UltraSubs_4.31_re..." a safari documet.
Should the contents of the "American_UltraSubs_v4.31" folder be moved up one level, in other words taken out of the folder and placed in the parent folder?

Look in your MODS folder. You should have a folder called "<mod to install>".* Look in that folder. It should contain a folder called "Data", and possibly a folder for documentation.

So, this is what you want:

Depending on how you unpacked the mod, you may find that inside the "<mod to install>" folder, you have a folder called "<mod to install>". Inside this folder you will find the "Data" folder.

Like so:

In this case, run JSGME and disable <mod to install>. Rename the first "<mod to install>" folder to "<something>".* Drag the "<mod to install>" to the "MODS" folder, delete the "<something>" folder. Run JSGME and enable <mod to install>.

Also, if you are running Vista or Windows 7:
These operating systems assume that you are a complete idiot. Unless you are running as the administrator account, you are blocked from making changes to files in the "Program Files" directory. I would suggest installing SH4 in a different directory, for example, "C:\Ubisoft\SH4". This will prevent any problems. If you don't feel like re-installing, either use the administrator account (bad idea) or run JSGME as administrator. I don't remember off the top of my head how to arrange that.**

*The value of <mod to install> may vary. The value of <something> will vary, it doesn't matter, I actually just hit random keys. You're just going to delete it anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

**Input of author included at least one large gin and tonic. Check instructions for sanity before using. Author claims no responsibility for whatever you may do to your computer.***

That was the problem, it was in a sub-directory named for itself. I made the change and it worked like a charm. The Mod however had some good things and some not so good. The best part is a 50 or 60 knot submarine, that can make it to the battleground a heck of a lot faster than one that does 20. That's my biggest annoyance in playing the game is how long it takes to get back to base and back to the battle. The downside however was the torpedoes were crazy more often than not, they would suddenly turn and chase ghosts on the horizon. The sub also radically changes depth with every turn. I guess I'll have to try another Mod, any suggestions?

for faster travel just max out your time compression and get on the surface as soon as you can, at max TC you can cover the map fairly quickly but if you get contacts stay submerged to not drop out of TC
