Default Enemy T Class Submarine.

I encountered a stationary T Class Submarine in Loch Ewe, so decided to see if I could target it. I sent one torpedo from approx. 1800 yards and scored a hit. I then fired at a small tanker with tube 2 and also scored a hit. Then I decided to get the hell out of it, as quite a few searchlights came on and a couple of destroyers appeared on the scene. I managed to get to the open sea on silent running until the coast was clear, so I could surface and head off into the North sea. My Captains log showed that I had sunk the T Class sub & the small tanker. However on the chart there was only one sunk ship icon for the tanker, the submarine although sunk too, was not showing on the chart. Is this normal for submarines, not to display a sunk icon on the map, even though it is actually recorded in the captains log as sunk.

Happens quite often to me normally. Some ships just don't show as wrecks on the map. Also, I have no idea what a grey shipwreck on the map means...

This has happened to me quite a few times with targeted ships. Not sure why. I usually use the captains log to confirm a success.

The greyed out wreck is confirmation that a ship has collided or run aground. You don't get a claim for these, but if a destroyer on your tail happens to destroy itself, then I'm glad for that

On Thursday, I got this during a convoy attack. In the Atlantic. In "over 1000" depth. And I did get the renown, "She's going down!" line, sinking report in the captain's log, everything!

Ooh I sit corrected I was sure it was my original thought. I'm pretty sure that a green wreck is a neutral ??

Incidentally I'm thinking of changing the "She's going down" line in the cfg (once I'm sure how to do it) to something like "She's had it" or "She's sinking"? Not sure yet

I seem to remember that the red sinking icon is for a visually confirmed sinking and that grey is for one that you haven't seen sink.

That's an interesting theory. A strong possibility. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes and a green icon is a neutral.

The other two ships that sank in the convoy (one by me, one because of the storm), had red shipwrecks, neither seen by me. One sank before the grey one, one after... At that time I was under at least 100 meters od water...

Until that day, I was sure grey shipwrecks were those not sank by me... Maybe it sank because of the weather in the end, but I was still awarded because I hit it? But why would the first one be red? I didn't even touch it (actually I am not sure what the ship was)...

That Thursday's convoy is a big mystery for me...

PS: Just to clarify, that convoy has been attacked just before my arrival to the scene, many ships were on fire or missing from the convoy. Also the sea was harsh as hell...

Ah well, even if the sunken sub didn't appear on the map, at least I got credit for it in the captains log. I really felt embarrassed though, after sinking a schooner a few patrols back, with my flak gun when it showed in the captains log as 16 tons. Still it was 16 tons closer to becoming an Ace I suppose!

Finished a patrol today and encountered a grey wreck icon. It was a surface fight between one of each German and Polish destroyers. I was submerged so didn't view it. That would confirm that theory Also thanks to Jimbuna for confirming from many years gaming experience

Ok , that explains why I got a grey icon after sinking a ship in convoy as I was already under when it sank. The second attack I made on the convoy the ship sunk didn't even show up. As long as I got credit I didn't care...I was more happy that for the first time I was able to make an attack on convoys and sneak away without getting a pounding ...than again it was in 1940

EDIT: I should have said first successful night surface attack...what a difference absence of enemy radar can make.

I'm not so sure this is strictly correct either. I have had red icons appear when I've been diving down deep, but I can only guess that my sonar man had it on hydrophones thus confirming the sinking by sound.
