Default American ship October 1939

I'm in a patrol just south of Ireland and I've spotted a lone American ship. Obviously she is supplying Britain.. am I allowed to attack this ship or will I get penalized?

EDIT: I just read another post regarding neutral ships. doh!! I may do some config changes lol.

They are supplying the enemy and thumbing their noses at the Fatherland. BE A REBEL SINK 'EM ALL

Edit your basic.cfg file as follows so there's no penalty for sinking a neutral vessel.

[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=0
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=0
CompletedPatrol=0
NEUTRAL=1 <= the default is -1 just remove the minus sign
ALLIED=1
AXIS=-10 <= leave the minus sign there unless you want to also sink German ships too (Onkle Karl won't like you if you do)

Yep, that way there are no neutral vessels, ever, and you can blissfully sink anything you want. Does that really sound right?

I change Neutral to '0'. I don't get penalized for sinking them but I don't get rewarded either, which discourages without punishing. Likewise I change Friendly from -10 to -1. There were friendly fire incidents, and every kaleun who sank a friendly ship was court-martialled. In every case it turned out the victim was disguised as an Allied ship or was where he wasn't supposed to be, so the kaleun was found not guilty. That might justify changing friendly ships to '0' as well, but that would mean carte blanche to sink anything, anytime, anywhere.

I like the idea of 0, no points, no penalty.

I don't want to abuse it, but I need to chase the Americans out of our fight!

Thanks!

Bide your time, there will be plenty of opportunity to sink American ships later in the war; and legally.

nice idea. and more realistic - more immersive. you have to ponder the question too - is it worth it.

maybe you could award yourself the smallest possible reward for a neutral - so it becomes more academic than practical?

Yes, I changed my settings to what you suggested a long time ago and think it the most realistic solution available. I happened to think of this discussion today as I found a American freighter in AM52 but it being June 1940 I left it alone...thought about sinking it since it wouldn't hurt my renown for a moment...but the realist in me kept saying "international incident" ...not to mention the fact Woody Guthrie would write a song about it.

The refrain that keeps running through my head is 'If I were a rich man' from Fiddler on the Roof, except the words are "If I made my own game".

Court-martial scenarios for sinking neutrals. Full awards for sinking neutrals if they are in an enemy convoy. Of course there would be no renown anyway. Hey! Play NYGM! They don't have renown.

Of course they don't have a lot of the stuff I do like. If I were a rich man I'd be funding the development of the subsim I want to play.

Hi guys

Could someone let me know the step by step folders in order to find 'renown' values as Steve has suggested for career points? I'm sure I've seen found what I'm after before but alas can't seem to locate them any more. I want to change the values so that I am rewarded for reaching mission assigned grids, for completed 24 hours patrolling there, and as mentioned the same values Steve uses for neutral and allied shipping.

Many thanks to you all

You can use WB's Renown Replacement mod for GWX to get your renown points back for patrolling your assigned grid for 24 hours.....it is in the download section here on subsim.
Not sure about the rest of your question, I would like to find out where Steve did his editing as well.

Opps....forgot to give you the link to the mod....http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1182 Looking at what Steve posted a little closer I believe you want to edit the basic.cfg file in Data/Cfg.

I don't have any games installed right now, and I can't even remember myself!

It's a good thing Raptor said right where to find it when he posted his own solution in post #2 of this very thread.

Silent Hunter III/Data/Cfg/Basic.

I followed Steve's suggestion. That way all I have to worry about is whether I want to waste a torpedo
