Default Windows 8 GWX Crash

GWX 3.0 w SH3 worked fine on my Windows 7 machine and my Vista machine. Works for about 1 or 2 missions with Win8, then starts crashing right before "Not so long ago" or whatever it says BUT then every once in a while, it will load, same save. I'm at a loss, might just bite the bullet and run vanilla. Anybody have any suggestions? I have tried loading and unloading certain mods through JSGME and this worked once or twice but now it doesn't. I have the newest AMD processor with 1GB Radeon and 6GB Ram with WIN8. Thanks!

I'm sorry but I've no experience of W8.

Welcome to SubSim.

Sixtpomp,

Where did you install SH3? It should not be installed in the Program Files (x86) directory, but someplace like c:/sh3 for example.

My laptop has the A6 AMD processor with the same amount of ram and a 1GB Radeon running under Windows 8. I have had no problems running SH3 with GWX and other mods. I would suggest you post your mod order here on the forum for other's, that know more about mods, to take a look at to see if that is a possible source for your CTD's

Hope you get it running...

I am running on a Windows 8 Laptop with almost the same specs. My SH3 with GWX is installed in C/ Programme Files (x86)/Ubisoft folder and runs no problem. I have SH4 Gold which is installed and runs from the same folder. My SH5 is in C/Ubisoft Folder. All three games run without any major problems.

I thought this patch (4GB) was meant for low end computers. Most Laptops with the latest Windows 8, and 4 core processor, providing they don't have an internal graphics card can handle most of the latest games. My Laptop has 8GB Ram and a Radeon 7600 card, and runs SH5 like a dream even with some of the larger mods installed.

SH3 GWX with SH Commander runs ok too, from C:\Programme Files (x86)\ Ubisoft\SHIII Folder. My SH5 Installation runs from C:\Ubisoft\SH5
