Default Question about MaGui

I have been practicing manual torpedo firing using Makman94 's excellent MOD and reading the "broken" TDC attack method . I have read the tutorials and have been trying to speed things up to get the shooting solution. There are some torpedo tables in the MOD that I'm trying to understand (as well as other tools).

I was viewing a nice tutorial recently showing how the Magui MOD is used to come up with a manual shooting solution. The video also illustrated the use of the interface and the related tools including the torpedo tables and how to determine target speed and lead angles.

I'm trying to find that video. Does anyone know the name of it or the link for it?

Is there a User's guide for the MaGui mod?

Anyway I think it was Makman94 that created it, but I'm not sure.

Thanks in advance for any help

Try this

ftp://hartmuthaas.no-ip.org/public/S...20Tutorial.rar

or this

Thanks, now I can go back to reading and practicing some more.

I have to admit trying to come with the firing solution and remain hidden with those destroyers looking for you is sure frustrating and fun at the same time.

Regards

Plissken_04,

I downloaded the files but the package is corrupted. The all video will play but no sound. Downloaded a second time thinking that I had a problem on my end, but got the same results, video but no sound. Recommend that you check your archives.

From what I saw that is the same video I was looking for, many thanks

Is there another set of the same files some where else? or a PDF file of the same?

Thanks

It's ok about the sound, I viewed them several time already and got it.

One other question I have relates to the shooting bearing tables in MaGui.

As I understand them, the tables are for three different speed torpedoes. Once the desired impact angle is determined one goes down the left hand column (lb/u) to a number and then across for the lead angle.

My question is:
1. The top row is the torpedo impact angle in degrees? (I think I have that one)

2. Are the numbers on the left hand column lb/u (1-20) distance in meters, degrees or what do the numbers represent? I don't know.

I thought I saw a video that had shown how to use the tables to make a shot, but cant find it.

Anyway thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Manual targeting, so TDC is off.
First, I figure out the heading of my target and position myself on a 90 degrees course.
I calculate the speed of my target and look in my table on what angle I should fire my torpedo.
Example: targer speed 7 kts, torpedo speed 44kts then my angle would be 9 degrees.
So the vertical numbers on my table are the speed of the target. Look under 90degrees and find 9 degrees.
Select torpedo speed 44 kts in TDC. Aim periscope on target and when it reaches 360-9=351 when it comes from the left, port side, fire the torpedo.

I hope that this explaines it a little bit.

Greetings, Marcel

You can do it for any desired impact angle between 000-180 degrees, speed based.

You first need to learn how to walk before you start running.
With SH3 take one step at the time. At the end you get better.

Hello Shinobi ,

in the tutorials that i include in MaGui's rar ,you will find a folder called ''Tutorial 2-- The Straight Shots'' .
in there i explain how to use the tables (include some pics too so have a look there) (and as MLGathome advised you)

a video showing the use of the tables is (after 6:00):

bye

Hey Makman, I'm a huge fan of your GUI.

Random question on this topic:

Why do the tables' solutions differ from what the TDC's on the exact same shot?

Ex. 30kt Chart for a 7kt target shows 13.1 degrees to shoot. But if I set up the same shot in the TDC it gives me 15 degrees to shoot for a 0 degree gyro.

Just been curious.

Thanks for the awesome mod!!!!

hello Tupolev,
thank you for your kind words
about your question: i believe that you haven't set up correctly the TDC thats why you see this difference.
look at the following pic,it shows the correct TDC setup for your example ( pay attention to all marked points):

now, turn your scope till gyro dial shows 0 degrees and take note of the shooting bearing:

just a comment : you must 'expect' a slight difference at shooting bearing between tables and TDC becuase tables are NOT taking into account the 'torpedo tube parallax correction' (but TDC does) and as i said here : http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...&postcount=432 prefer to make shots up to 2km when using the tables becuase range is always a factor ( but less when shoting at 0gyro)

I need to be more mindful in my required reading.

Thanks Makman, I've totally missed a lot of your tips and helpful hints.

I was definitely leaving the range set at 500m and wasn't perfectly precise on on bearing and AOB knobs. That was leading to my discrepancies.

I very much appreciate taking the time to clear that up for me!

Some substantial differences can exist between Periscope_Bearing and Tube_Bearing.
For example:
0500m range: if periscope bearing 030.0° then tube bearing difference is 002.47°.
1500m range: if periscope bearing 030.0° then tube bearing difference is 000.78°.
