Default Is this TMO 2.5's doeing or a TC issue?!?

I'm having some strange things happening when I'm going up against a convoy.

When I get multiple contact's on sonar / hydro's I plot a intercept course and try to stay 8 to 9Nm (in clear weather) out on a parallel course and try to ID all the vessels in the convoy and observer how the DD's are protecting the convoy before I make a run to get ahead of them and go for my attack...
Usually I try to get about 10 to 15Nm in front before I turn for the attack and hope the convoy hasn't changed its course.

Now starts my problem,

About 75% of the time 1 destroyer is trailing the convoy instead of being in front of it and the other 2 are covering port and starboard side of the convoy which is normal.

I use TC (up to 32) to get in front the convoy and al of a sudden the trailing destroyer is making a run for the convoy and overtakes it port side if I'm port side and starboard side if I'm starboard side .
By the time I'm in position the destroyer positioned himself nicely in front of the convoy zigzagging away like he never left.

I'm currently on a mission to photograph Hiroshima bay (Feb '42) and my first attempt at Bungo Strait was something out of the twilight zone or that vessel had a radar.

It was 22h00 calm weather, slight fog and half moon when I entered the Bungo and got a warship contact report at approx 23h15, told sonar to follow it (I was about 8Nm behind it and slightly gaining), used up to 8TC and been trailing the destroyer for about 2h, at 6Nm I slowed down enough not to get closer, at least I thought it would but to my astonishment it slowed down as well. I slowed down some more and it did as well and kept the distance to 6-ish Nm.

It's only the escorts that seems to know where I am when using TC, has anyone els had similar problems with TC?

PS_ On exiting Bungo and making my way to Hiroshima the destroyer made its move while I was getting in to shallow waters .

Escorts often will go into hunting search modes when guarding convoy, doesn't mean they have a clue you're there. If you're tracking a TF, you can get picked up on radar from one of the larger warships and they will vector escorts towards you, however, some escorts themselves can have radar. TC really has nothing to do with this behavior, just keep an eye on things, so you don't get killed.

It is possible the lone DD you say in the Bungo was Pete. Bungo Pete is in TMO, he's not included in RSRD.

I'm running TMO 2.5 with OTC and the Water disturbance mod.

The convoy consisted of 2 Costa liners and 3 DD's heading to Tokyo.

I can understand they do and why (not sure the lead destroyer should be the one doing that tho ) but a 100% port / starboard overtake to my port / starboard approach is a bit much.
(Not to mention the 30Nm out in open sea, in the middle of nowhere just happends to be there destroyer (or subchaser) I encounter regularly when going from patrol grid to patrol grid at 1024TC ).

I have no idea when the IJN DD's got their radar's installed, my Bungo run was Feb. 20 1942 and Pete was alone.
(for game purposes I stayed well clear of any contacts, them being fisherman of merchants in order not to give away my position).

PS_ Wonder if the game generates that behavior for merchants and fisherman besides the warships and airplanes which I know do?

I'll have to keep that in mind when facing a TF later in the war, thx

My second attempt on Bungo Stait was successful.

Started my run at 21h30 just after sunset, I got a few contacts but nothing got even close this time. Had to make a few course adjustments exiting the Stait but made it.
Made my way North and took the shortest route to Hiroshima not to loose any night time cover, went in by Latitude 33.57N by 132.11E.
Made the photo at 03h24 and got on my way again, about 10min later I got 2 warships contacts garding my exit route, seeing they both were going in the direction of Hiroshima doing 7Knt I decided to make my exit left of the Island (Latitude 34.18N by 132.16E) then resume my course the same way I got in.
By the time I got to open sea it was already 13h00.
